Can’t decide between tile or hardwood for your entryway? Why not have both?! One of our latest flooring projects offers the best of both worlds. Mixed media is a term used in the flooring industry to describe a floor that is composed of two different materials, usually hardwood and stone. Mixed media floors give homeowners the chance to have a one-of-a-kind creation, transforming their floor into a work of art. When Alpharetta howeowner, Bettilee Miller, came to us seeking a mixed media floor, we were excited for the challenge. Her custom designed foyer features red oak inlayed
with travertine tile. Each oak board was cut five times at a precise angle to create the 24″x24″ interlocking boxes. The stone work consisted of 4″x8″ beveled-edge travertine installed in a herringbone pattern. The design is composed of
a total of 66 boxes that begin at the entryway and continue down the hallway. A great deal of planning went into designing such an intricate floor, and the execution was both painstaking and arduous, but we couldn’t be happier with the way it all came together. Many thanks to Bettilee for the opportunity, and our props go out to the crew for a job well done!
