What to Expect with Kitchen & Bath Remodeling

Once you have decided to partner with Pizazz for your kitchen or bathroom renovation, you may wonder what will happen next.  Knowing what to expect before, during, and after the work takes place will help ensure a high-quality job.

Countertops

To give you a better idea of what you can expect with the design and installation of your new countertops, we have outlined the process below:

♦ Step 1- We will accompany you to the countertop showroom to help you select the material, color and style of countertop that best matches your vision.  (Click here to see a selection of available granite colors.)

♦ Step 2- Once you have selected your countertop, we will schedule a detail and create a template of your countertops.  A detail is when an experienced technician will come to your home to take accurate measurements of the square and linear footage of your countertops.  Other information such as edge profiles (click here to see edge options), corner treatments, sink type, faucet holes, range type, and backsplash dimensions will also be gathered.  A template is typically completed at the same time as the detail. This is when the technician will create a pattern of your countertops either by using a plastic sheet or a digital imaging device.

♦ Step 3- We will schedule a time to lay out your template on the material you have selected. You may choose to waive your template layout, but we encourage you to proceed with a layout if you have chosen granite or marble that is varied in color and pattern to ensure your satisfaction with your countertop choice.

♦ Step 4- Fabrication.  State of the art equipment is used to fabricate your stone and all of your countertop pieces are carefully inspected.

♦ Step 5- You are now ready for installation.  A highly skilled two-person crew will install your countertops on a day that is convenient for you.  Installation typically takes about 4 hours to complete.   Cleanliness is very important to us, so you can be confident knowing your kitchen or bath will be left in order.

Backsplashes

Designing a backsplash is an art form, and at Pizazz Floors, we have the tools to help you become the artist.  With hundreds of color and style options, your backsplash can be as unique as your personality.  Or if tile design is really not your cup of tea, you can leave it up to us.  In either case, you can expect quality workmanship with your backsplash, and a special design that will truly transform your kitchen.

♦ Step 1- Your Pizazz design consultant will meet with you in your home to take measurements and discuss your overall vision.

♦ Step 2- Your design consultant will accompany you to a local tile showroom to select your material.  Backsplashes can vary greatly in color, pattern, and material, and we can assist you in choosing a design you’ll love.  Once your selection has been made, we will order your material and, if necessary, wait for delivery (many tile and glass pieces are in stock, but special order material can take up to a few weeks to come in.)

♦ Step 3- A skilled and professional crew will come on your scheduled installation date and begin installing your backsplash.  We ask that you please remove everything from your countertops prior to installation.  After the backsplash is set, we will grout and seal the tiles.  The installation process usually takes 1-2 days depending on the size of your kitchen and the intricacy of your design.  We will ensure the work area is left clean, and you can begin enjoying your new gourmet kitchen!

Tile Showers

If you have hired Pizazz Floors & Interior Design to design and build your master bath, or any other bathroom, we first want to thank you for trusting us in this very personal space.

Please read What to Expect with Tile Installation.  The same information applies to your bathroom, with the addition of a few special points about the shower.  When Pizazz installs a shower, it will not leak! Pizazz takes personal ownership of EVERY shower we install.  We treat each job like it is our personal home, but this especially holds true with showers.

♦ Step 1- Demolition and preparation. After you have selected your tile, the first step is still demolition, but with showers, prep is crucial.  After we demo a shower, we assess water damage and repair all rotten or molded boards.  At this stage, we will also frame out any knee walls, niches, or corner seats.  You can take assurance knowing every piece is screwed together.   No nails go into a Pizazz shower, which makes for a much more stable structure.

♦ Step 2- Once the shower is framed, we install the Pro Slope.  Click here to view a short video on Pro Slopes.  This step is a must and great insurance for your shower.  We then roll out a shower pan liner over your Pro Slope.  The shower pan liner covers the shower floor and goes up the shower walls at least 18”.   Next, we install the backer board on the shower walls.  At this time, the joints are taped and all screw holes are sealed with silicone.  Now your space is starting to look like a shower!

♦ Step 3- Once the walls go up, the actual pan or bedding mortar is poured, which takes 24 hours to dry.  The next day, we paint a rubber, waterproof membrane on the entire shower. We use 3 coats of this paintable rubber, so we must allow multiple days for drying.

♦ Step 4- We are now ready for tile.  It typically takes about 3 days to tile and grout a shower, but the time frame will depend on the complexity of the design.

♦ Step 5- Everything is then sealed, and after 24 hours of drying, Pizazz will install the shower door and the plumbing trim.  It takes 24 hours for the shower door to completely set up, but at that point, you can begin relaxing in your new spa retreat.

A normal master bathroom takes about 3 weeks from the time of demolition to enjoying that first shower.
